Our Pediatric Optometrist Dr. Mark Pittaluga uses a calm and friendly approach to put your child at ease while using his knowledge and experience to insure your child receives a thorough and comprehensive eye exam to detect potential problems.
A complete eye exam is essential for the early detection and treatment of vision problems. Detecting problems early will allow us to begin treatment before your child experiences problems in school due to poor vision. Our exam tests visual acuity, focusing skills and eye tracking, and detect problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, lazy eye, crossed eyes, and color blindness.
We recommend that children have a complete eye exam at 5 years of age. After that eye exams every year are normally recommended.

Glasses for Kids
We have lots of frames that fit well and also look cool so that kids actually love their glasses! We have both stylish frames and durable products made of safe polycarbonate, but kids will be kids and we are always here to repair the glasses if needed.
Contacts for Kids
Contact lenses have changed and now they are safer and more convenient than ever, making them a great option for younger children. Disposable contacts take the worry out of losing lenses and we have some that are thrown away after each day of use. Personal appearance can be an important factor in a child’s development and many kids are thrilled with the idea of not having to wear glasses. Contacts are also a great option for sports and other activities.
Orthokeratology for Children
There is an exciting new technology that allows children (and adults) to correct their vision without surgery.

Age 5 years
Around age 5, your child should have a thorough optometric eye examination to make sure his or her vision is developing properly and there is no evidence of eye disease. If needed, our optometrist can prescribe treatment, including eyeglasses and/or vision therapy, to correct the vision development problem.
Age 6 to 18 years
From ages 6 to 18 years, we suggest eye exams every year. Eye protection should also be a major concern to all student athletes, especially in certain high-risk sports. Many children suffer sports-related eye injuries each year and nearly all could have been prevented by using proper protective eyewear.
